Estimating Multiple Parts

Estimating with KipwareCYC® is generally based on obtaining a cycletime to machine a single part. But two options in KipwareCYC® give the user the ability to review cycletimes if multiple parts are machined.

Using the multi part mill calculation option the user can review possible times when machining multiple parts in a fixture or indexing table. For a fixture type scenario, enter the number of parts to be held in the fixture. Enter the number of fixtures to be used and the approximate distance between the fixtures. Selecting the re calc fixture button will cause KipwareCYC to re calculate the cycletime created for a single part into a time using the fixture specs entered. Times will be amortized over the machining of multiple parts as required.

A scenario involving an indexing type device can also be calculated. Enter the number of pieces to be mounted per side. Enter the number of sides of the indexer to be used. Then enter the indexing time for each index. Selecting the re calc indexer button will cause KipwareCYC to re calculate the cycletime created for a single part into a time using the indexer specs entered.

For turning when a multi spindle turning center is involved, select the multi part turn calculation option. Generally when this type of machine is employed, the longest running spindle is considered to be the cycletime. Users can use the move to A and move to B buttons to move operations between the spindles until the desired configuration is achieved. You can view the times for each spindle at the bottom of the turret operation list. Should the user wish, the estimate can be converted from a single part estimate to an estimate for the multi spindle turning center. Basically, all operations on the faster spindle will be eliminated, leaving the cycletime as the time for the longest running spindle.
