Conversational TURNING Cycles

This CHAPTER contains a listing and outline of the CONVERSATIONAL TURNING cycles available in KipwareT®.

Conversational cycles allow users to create G code for the specific shapes using only fill-in-the-blank forms ... no CAD model or drawing of any kind is required to create G code using these cycles. They are arranged in this listing on no particular order and the list is current as of the current release.

If the SUB SPINDLE option has been purchased ... all cycles described here can be selected set to be performed on the sub spindle.

BAR FEED

This cycle creates G code to position and move stock out of the spindle using a bar feed mechanism. The feeder can either be a slide on clamp type ... simple slide on type ... automatic bar feeder or manual bar pull.

FACING

This cycle creates G code to perform a simple facing operation. Total stock removal as well as depth of cut can be user defined ... and the facing operation can be to the X0 location or any other X diameter desired. Roughing and / or finishing is also selectable by the user.

The machining G code can be output as either a "fanuc compatible" or Okuma canned cycle or long hand G code ... selected by the user. Roughing and / or finishing is also selectable by the user.

O.D. SHOULDER GROOVING

Shoulder Grooving is defined where the two diameters on either side of the groove are different. This cycle allows the user to define a groove on the O.D. with any user defined CHAMFER or RADIUS on the two outside corners. The machining definition in this cycle can be :

STRAIGHT Roughing

PECK Roughing with chip break

I.D. SHOULDER GROOVING

Shoulder Grooving is defined where the two diameters on either side of the groove are different. This cycle allows the user to define a groove on the I.D. with any user defined CHAMFER or RADIUS on the two outside corners. The machining definition in this cycle can be :

STRAIGHT Roughing

PECK Roughing with chip break

PECK Roughing with complete retraction

FINISHING cycle

DRILLING

This cycle allows the user to define a DRILLING cycle. The drilling cycle can be a simple plunge with or without the output of a canned cycle ... or can be a complex drilling cycle with up to (3) separate machining patterns. For example ... perhaps a simple drill to a specified depth ... then peck drilling to another specified depth ... then peck drilling with complete retraction to the end depth. All parameters and type of cycle can be defined by the user.

O.D. TAPERED GROOVING

This cycle allows the user to define a groove on the O.D. with any user defined ANGLE of the side walls. The angles can be the same or different. Roughing and / or finishing is also selectable by the user.

I.D. TAPERED GROOVING

This cycle allows the user to define a groove on the I.D. with any user defined ANGLE of the side walls. The angles can be the same or different. Roughing and / or finishing is also selectable by the user.

O.D. PROFILE GROOVING

This cycle allows the user to define a PROFILE for a groove on the O.D. with any user defined ANGLE or RADIUS on ANY of the four corners. The resulting G code is a profile cut starting of the defined profile.

I.D. PROFILE GROOVING

This cycle allows the user to define a PROFILE for a groove on the I.D. with any user defined ANGLE or RADIUS on ANY of the four corners. The resulting G code is a profile cut starting of the defined profile.

FACE PROFILE GROOVING

This cycle allows the user to define a PROFILE for a groove on the FACE with any user defined ANGLE or RADIUS on ANY of the four corners. The resulting G code is a profile cut starting of the defined profile.

KNURLING

This cycle allows the user to define a KNURLING operation to machine on the O.D..

O.D. THREADING

This cycle allows the user to define a THREADING operation on the O.D.. The thread can be a simple single diameter thread or a complex thread with up to (2) different tapers. The thread operation can be right hand or left hand ... and G code output can be via a canned cycle or long hand G code.
